New Scale Technologies named to Inc. 5,000 list of fastest-growing private companies in 2008; ranks #18 among computer and electronics firms

Victor, NY - Aug. 22, 2008 - New Scale Technologies, Inc. today announced that it ranked at number 650 in Inc.’s annual listing of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the United States. The Victor, NY manufacturer of miniature piezoelectric motors and motion systems also ranked number 18 among the list’s top 100 computer and electronics companies, with a three-year sales growth of 515 percent.

Inc. says its list is a comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.

“Our second annual Inc. 5000 continues the most ambitious project in business journalism,” said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth.”

New Scale Technologies creates miniature motion systems based on its patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE® motor, the world’s smallest linear motor. This ultrasonic motor is smaller, more precise, less expensive, more robust and more power-efficient than other micro motors. The company also develops complete motion systems integrating SQUIGGLE motor technology with supporting electronics including motor controller ASICs and position sensor SoCs (systems on a chip) developed in partnership with austriamicrosystems. It has licensed its SQUIGGLE motor technology to major global manufacturers Alps Electric Company and Tamron Company.

New Scale’s micro motors and micro-actuator modules enable design engineers to create smaller products including mobile phone cameras, electronic locks, nano-scale fluid control systems including micro fuel cells, medical devices including miniature drug pumps and endoscopes, optics and imaging systems, automotive modules and consumer electronics.

The 5000 companies that made the list reported aggregate revenue of $185 billion and median three-year growth of 147 percent. Most important, the 2008 Inc. 5000 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 826,033 jobs since those companies were founded. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and a list of the fastest-growing companies that can be sorted by industry and region can be found at www.inc5000.com.

Methodology

The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, for profit, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007. Companies can apply for next year’s Inc. 5000 by registering with “IncBizNet, Business Network for Private Companies”, at www.incbiznet.com.

About New Scale Technologies

New Scale Technologies (www.newscaletech.com) creates disruptively small motion systems based on our patented piezoelectric SQUIGGLE® motor, the world’s smallest linear motorand TRACKER™ position sensor. The ultrasonic SQUIGGLE motor is smaller, more precise, less expensive, more robust and more power-efficient than other micro motors. The TRACKER position sensor integrates a magnetic sensor with on-chip digital encoder, for smaller size and higher resolution than miniature optical encoders. We create complete motion systems integrating motor and sensor technology with supporting electronics (ASICs) developed with our partner austriamicrosystems (www.austriamicrosystems.com).

New Scale’s micro motors, encoders and micro-actuator modules enable design engineers to create smaller products including mobile phone cameras, electronic locks and intelligent fasteners, nano-scale fluid control including lab-on-a-chip systems, medical devices including miniature drug pumps and endoscopes, optics and imaging systems, automotive modules, lasers, aerospace and defense systems, cryogenic and MRI-compatible instruments, and consumer electronics including micro fuel cells.

SQUIGGLE is a registered trademark and TRACKER is a trademark of New Scale Technologies, Inc.
