There are many miniature motors and stages on the market, but most need a large external control board for operation. In contrast, New Scale's M3 smart modules have everything integrated right into the module - no separate control board needed. This results in dramatically smaller system size. It also greatly simplifies integration and operation for OEM system designers.

(left) This thin rotary actuator module generates high torque and speed in a thin, small package. Inside the module, multiple piezo micro motors generate tangential force on the outside diameter of a rotating shaft, creating torque. Integrated in the module are drive ICs (one per motor), along with an angular position sensor and microprocessor for closed-loop positioning.

(right) New Scale has demonstrated rotary modules using its UTAF piezoelectric micro motors and drive ICs (pictured) as well as its SQUIGGLE motors.
