Motorized Positioning Stages

Piezo Motors Enable Tiny Closed-Loop Nanopositioning Stages

New Scale’s closed-loop linear stages and multi-axis positioning systems feature integral SQUIGGLE motors to provide unmatched precision in a very compact and precise design.

The stages support vertical loads of 200 to 500 grams with high stiffness and negligible heating. They are ideal for hands-free, “set and hold” positioning where space is at a premium, such as in optical microscopy, automated laser alignment, and biomedical research.

New Scale closed-loop stages are easily assembled into multi-axis (X-Y and X-Y-Z) nanopositioning systems.

The SQ-2115 is a 20-nm resolution closed-loop stage that integrates a piezoelectric SQUIGGLE motor with crossed roller bearings and glass scale encoder.

Commercial Positioning Stages with Piezo Motor Drive

A SQUIGGLE motor can directly replace the manual micrometer in many commercial linear stages. A light spring preload is required to hold a flat surface on the moving stage against the tip of the motor’s lead screw. A knob on the motor allows for manual screw rotation and stage positioning.

New Scale offers standard and vacuum-compatible stages with light spring loads for use with our ultrasonic motors. See our laboratory and vacuum piezo motor pages.

01260 Right angle bracket for SQ-2115 (optional)

SQ-2300 Motor Controller

The SQ-2300 bench top controller operates one SQ-2115 stage. The controller operates on DC power from an AC wall plug transformer (provided). Connect the SQ-2300 to your PC to control the motor using the New Scale Pathway™ software (included), or use the optional SQ-2310 handset (sold separately).

New Scale Pathway Software

New Scale Pathway™ Software enables easy PC/Windows-based control of the SQUIGGLE motor using the SQ-2300 controller. The easy-to-use, "point and click" graphical user interface lets you operate the motor by entering values in boxes (speed, step, frequency, etc.) and clicking graphical buttons (jog, run, etc.). It also features a powerful script generator that enables you to create and run automated commands and sequences for almost any motion control task. The script editor is fast, flexible and easy to use, even by non-programmers.
